About this test

BCR-ABL is an abnormal fusion gene (Philadelphia chromosome) found in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and some acute leukaemias. This molecular test detects and measures it.

Why is this test done?

  • Diagnose CML
  • Monitor response to treatment such as imatinib
  • Detect relapse early

  • Enlarged spleen

BCR-ABL Not detected

Detected means BCR-ABL is present. During treatment, falling levels show a good response.
