How it works
About this test
H. pylori is a bacterium that lives in the stomach and is a common cause of gastritis and ulcers in India. This test looks for IgG antibodies, which show that you have been infected at some point.
Why is this test done?
- Look for H. pylori infection in people with acidity or ulcers
- Investigate long-standing stomach pain
- Screen people with a family history of stomach cancer
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Burning pain in the upper belly
- Bloating and frequent burping
- Nausea or loss of appetite
- Black stools (bleeding ulcer)
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A positive IgG means current or past infection. Antibodies can stay after treatment, so a stool antigen or breath test is better to confirm active infection.
Common reasons- Current or past H. pylori infection
