About this test

AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) shows a woman's ovarian reserve — roughly how many eggs remain in the ovaries. It is widely used in fertility planning and IVF.

Why is this test done?

  • Check ovarian reserve
  • Plan fertility treatment or IVF
  • Support diagnosis of PCOS

Symptoms — when should you get tested?

  • Difficulty conceiving
  • Planning pregnancy later in life
  • Irregular periods

Normal range

Women 25–35 yrs 1.5 – 4.0 ng/mL
Low reserve < 1.0 ng/mL

Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.

If your result is high

A high AMH is common in PCOS.

Common reasons
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

If your result is low

A low AMH means fewer eggs remain — fertility planning may be advised sooner.

Common reasons
  • Increasing age
  • Previous ovarian surgery
  • Chemotherapy
  • Early menopause
