How it works
About this test
This test looks for IgG antibodies against the dengue virus. IgG appears later than IgM and stays for years, so it shows a past infection or, when very high, a repeat (secondary) dengue infection.
Why is this test done?
- Find past dengue infection
- Identify a second dengue infection, which can be more severe
- Read along with NS1 and IgM results
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- High fever
- Body and joint pain
- Pain behind the eyes
- Rash or bleeding signs
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A positive IgG means you have had dengue before. If IgG is positive early in a fever, it may suggest a second infection that needs closer watch.
Common reasons- Past dengue infection
- Current secondary dengue infection
