How it works
About this test
This test looks for IgM antibodies against the dengue virus. IgM is the first antibody the body makes, usually from day 4–5 of fever, so a positive result points to a recent or current dengue infection.
Why is this test done?
- Confirm dengue after the first 4–5 days of fever
- Tell dengue from other fevers like malaria or typhoid
- Support treatment decisions and platelet monitoring
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Sudden high fever
- Severe body and joint pain
- Pain behind the eyes
- Headache
- Rash, vomiting or bleeding gums
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A positive IgM means a recent dengue infection. Your doctor will monitor platelet count and fluid intake closely.
Common reasons- Recent dengue infection (spread by Aedes mosquito bite)
