About this test

hs-CRP (high-sensitivity CRP) measures very low levels of inflammation in blood vessels. It helps predict the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Why is this test done?

  • Heart risk assessment
  • Along with lipid profile

Symptoms — when should you get tested?

  • Family history of heart disease
  • Diabetes, smoking or high BP

Normal range

Low risk < 1.0 mg/L
Average risk 1.0 – 3.0 mg/L
High risk > 3.0 mg/L

Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.

If your result is high

A higher hs-CRP means higher heart risk (if there is no current infection).

Common reasons
  • Inflammation in blood vessels
  • Smoking, obesity
