Why is this test done?
- Screen for TB infection, especially in children
- Check contacts of TB patients
- Screen before treatment that lowers immunity
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Contact with a TB patient
- Long cough or fever in a child
- Poor weight gain
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A swelling of 10 mm or more is usually positive and means TB infection is likely (5 mm in people with HIV or weak immunity). It does not tell active from latent TB.
