How it works
About this test
QuantiFERON (IGRA) is a blood test that shows if your immune system has met the TB germ. It detects both latent (sleeping) TB and exposure, and is not affected by the BCG vaccine.
Why is this test done?
- Find latent TB before starting steroids or biologic medicines
- Screen contacts of TB patients
- Screen health workers
- Support TB diagnosis
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Contact with a TB patient
- Planned treatment that lowers immunity
- Usually no symptoms in latent TB
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A positive result means TB infection is present, but it cannot tell latent from active TB. Your doctor will check with X-ray and symptoms.
Common reasons- Latent TB infection
- Active TB disease
