How it works

This test looks for IgG antibodies against Orientia tsutsugamushi, the germ that causes scrub typhus. Scrub typhus spreads through the bite of tiny mites in bushes and fields and is common in many parts of India during and after the rains.
Why is this test done?
- Find past or later-stage scrub typhus infection
- Read with IgM to understand the stage of infection
- Look into unexplained fever
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Fever with headache and body ache
- A black scab (eschar) at the bite site
- Swollen glands
- Cough or breathlessness
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
