How it works
About this test
A swab from the throat, wound, ear, eye, vagina or other site is cultured to grow the germs causing an infection. The sensitivity test then shows which antibiotics will work against them.
Why is this test done?
- Find the germ causing a local infection
- Choose the right antibiotic
- Treat infections that keep coming back
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Sore throat with pus
- Ear or eye discharge
- Infected or non-healing wound
- Abnormal vaginal discharge
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
