How it works
About this test
This test detects IgG antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite caught from undercooked meat, unwashed vegetables or cat litter. A positive IgG usually means you were infected in the past and are now immune.
Why is this test done?
- Check immunity before or early in pregnancy
- Part of the TORCH panel
- Look into swollen glands or eye problems
- Check people with weak immunity
Symptoms — when should you get tested?
- Swollen glands
- Flu-like illness
- Eye pain or blurred vision
- Usually no symptoms
Normal range
Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.
If your result is high
A positive IgG means a past infection. If IgM is also positive, an IgG avidity test helps tell whether the infection is recent.
