About this test

The Dengue Profile includes Dengue NS1 Antigen, Dengue IgM and Dengue IgG antibodies. NS1 detects the virus itself in the first days of fever, while IgM and IgG antibodies show recent or past infection. Testing all three gives a complete answer at any stage of the fever.

Why is this test done?

  • Confirm dengue in a patient with fever
  • Tell early infection from later stages
  • Help plan treatment and monitoring

Symptoms — when should you get tested?

  • Sudden high fever
  • Severe headache and pain behind the eyes
  • Muscle, joint and bone pain ("break-bone fever")
  • Rash
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Bleeding gums or nose

Normal range

NS1 Antigen Negative
Dengue IgM Negative
Dengue IgG Negative

Reference ranges differ slightly between labs, methods, age and sex. Always discuss your report with your doctor.

If your result is high

A positive NS1 means current dengue infection (day 1–5). Positive IgM means recent infection; IgG positive means past or repeat infection.

Common reasons
  • Dengue virus infection spread by Aedes mosquitoes
